What does LED stand for?

LED is the abbreviation of “Light Emitting Diode”. It is a semiconductor device that can convert electrical energy into light energy. The core part of the LED is a chip composed of p-type semiconductors and n-type semiconductors. There is a p-n junction between the p-type semiconductor and the n-type semiconductor. When the injected minority carriers recombine with the majority carriers, the excess will be recombined. The energy is released in the form of light, thereby converting electrical energy into light energy. Chips of different materials can emit light of different colors such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple, and the “light-emitting diode” is also named after it.

Compared with traditional lighting, LED has obvious advantages in energy saving and is currently the most advanced lighting technology in the world. It is considered by the industry to be one of the great inventions of mankind after Edison invented the incandescent light bulb.

Another major feature of LED is environmental protection. LED is a solid-state light-emitting device, does not contain mercury, and will not cause toxic metal environmental pollution due to rupture during production and use.

How did LED develop?

From the initial single-color red light in the 1980s, to the later orange light “two-color”, and then to Nichia’s “blue light” research and development, the development process of more than 30 years has finally brought full-color RGB display to our eyes.

The maturity of LED technology development represents the emergence of new media advertising forms, which is the perfect combination of new media technology and outdoor advertising. For example, the electronic large-screen advertisements that we usually see on the street, or some roadside advertisements and road signs, are highlighted by colorful lights.

The characteristics of long life, low power consumption, and high brightness of LED light-emitting diodes are destined to become the first choice for large-screen information display applications.

Especially in the application environment, LED display is also widely used in various government squares, leisure squares, schools, cinemas, commercial centers, advertising information boards, commercial streets, railway stations, bus stations, airports, etc. The field of installation is becoming more and more extensive.

LED’s greatest role in the future

We have said that LED stands for new media advertising, which means that its greater role is in the display of advertisements. In today’s media society, images gradually replace words and become a social necessity for figurative survival.

With the advancement of semiconductor materials and process technology and the increase in production, the performance of LED will be further improved, which stands for the price will continue to decline. It will gradually enter the field of outdoor advertising in an all-round way.

LED creates an “immersive” creative visual space, emphasizing people’s all-round visual experience, and is the creative content playback method provided by LED technology. It stands for that when we see this 3D effect video, we might be tempted to stop and watch. One-way communication is moving towards interactive experiential communication.

We can feel these highlight of interactive experience communication from some big evening parties by LED creative visual space, such as The opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2010 World Expo Pavilion.

The all-round space constructed by LED technology is perfectly combined with digital projection technology, combined with dynamic video and lighting effects, which will bring an unprecedented shocking visual experience. If the form of shared online video can be combined with LED outdoor media, it will also stand for a new direction for the integration and development of new media communication.

LED application fields and their classification

In the context of the global energy crisis, semiconductor LED lighting with energy saving, environmental protection, rich colors, safety, long life and miniaturization has been recognized by the world as the third lighting revolution in the history of human lighting. With the improvement of LED technology, its application fields are constantly expanding and extending, and are widely used in LCD screen backlights, general lighting, signal displays, signal lights and automotive lamps and other fields.

Different LED lamp bead technology

As we all know, there are two types of LED packaging technologies, one is SMD, which stands for Surface Mounted Devices, and the other is DIP, which stands for DOUBLE IN-LINE PACKAGE. So we have two classifications for LED LAMP.

The LED Lamp models generally used in indoor LEDs are SMD1010, SMD1212, SMD1515, SMD2020, SMD2121, SMD3528. These are all LED displays suitable for indoor use!

The LED Lamp currently used in outdoor LEDs include SMD1415, SMD1921, SMD2727, SMD2525, SMD3535, SMD4045, etc. In addition, DIP outdoor Lamp can be choiced from DIP346 and DIP546.

The difference between indoor and outdoor use of LED technology

Waterproof rating on LED

The waterproof level is usually expressed in IP. For example, IP65 stands for the abbreviation of Ingress Protection, and the IP rating is the degree of protection of electrical equipment enclosures against the intrusion of foreign objects. The “6” in IP65 stands for “complete protection against dust ingress” and the “5” stands for “low pressure jet effect without any angle”. It can make the led work normally under various harsh conditions.

In places with high geographical conditions, the requirements for LED modules are also higher. The unique waterproof design and high temperature flame retardant materials are used to make the outdoor LED display waterproof level reach IP67 and completely flame retardant VO level. The LED modules can be Immerse directly in water. Such conditions are common in countries such as the hot Middle East and cold Russia.

So for the LED used indoors, its waterproof level is naturally not high, and IP43 can meet most of the scenes. Although it is used for indoor use, it will also be affected by humid air and external air conditioning, so when BAITRONICS produces indoor screens, they will apply PCB “conformal paint” to reduce the screen and contact with humid air.

The amount of brightness provided by the LED

Outdoors, the brightness requirements of LEDs are very high. Brightness needs to be at least 4500-7500nits/sqm. The brighter the LED, the better the readability.

Indoors, LED brightness requirements are relatively low, generally 500-1000nits is enough. Compared to TVs and projection screens, LED devices can provide very vivid colors, giving viewers a lifelike image.

In recent years, the price of random LED displays has been declining, the quality of raw materials has also continued to decline, competition has continued to deteriorate, and the quality of raw materials and products such as PCBs has gradually declined, resulting in low LED screen brightness and shortened LED lamp life.

BAITRONICS specializes in outdoor advertising displays. Based on more than ten years of experience in the Middle East market, Europe and the United States, and Russia, we guarantee the quality of our products.

Pixel pitch between LEDs

As we all know, the viewing distance of the display is directly related to the pixels of the LED, where PIXEL LED stands for PIXEL DOTs and LED DOTs, which means that it is composed of small squares of the image.

These little squares have definite positions and assigned color values. The color and position of the small squares determine the appearance of the image. The higher the pixel, the higher the clarity of the LED display.

Outdoor displays usually have a larger area, so the viewing distance will be longer, and high-definition pictures can also be presented. Indoor video walls are just the opposite. Due to the relatively short viewing distance, in order to provide viewers with ultra-high-definition pictures, the requirements for pixel density are relatively high.

Such as BAITRONICS HD series P0.9, P1.25, P1.56mm and so on. They can provide very high-definition video and pictures within a viewing distance of 1m-2m, and are mostly used in TV stations and research institutes.

What kind of LED material should be selected

As we all know, no matter what type of LED, its packaging technology is the same. But the raw materials used by different LEDs are completely different. Obviously, LED lights can be divided into wire lights, copper lights and gold lights. What do they represent?

LED displays often need to deal with a large temperature difference during normal use, and the support material will expand and contract when heated. The product life of copper brackets can reach more than 5 years, while the specific service life of iron brackets is only 1-3 years. During the use of the display screen, it is often faced with harsh environments such as rain, humidity, sunny days, and exposure to sunlight. This requires the device to have good performance and be able to withstand external losses. Strong corrosion resistance, good electrical and thermal conductivity, can make the device have the advantages of longer life, better heat dissipation, and less light decay.

Ductility and Thermal Conductivity

No cracks are formed when the copper wire is bent, the process is easy to control, and the ductility is excellent. It also has an equally high thermal conductivity, making it more thermally conductive and dissipating heat faster.

After combining all the tests, we came up with the following results:

Oxidation resistance test: led gold wire is greater than alloy wire than copper wire.

Production process: The gold wire is stable in nature, not easy to be oxidized, and easy to handle; the alloy wire needs protective gas during processing, and the technical requirements are high; the copper wire has high hardness and is difficult to bond.
